Marieke Kruip: Closing the Gender Gap in Anticoagulation for Mechanical Heart Valves

Marieke Kruip, Professor of Haematology and Quality of care, Director of Quality and Patient Care at Erasmus MC, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, adding:

”As international womens day is approaching (March 8), please read our paper!

For women (and men) with a mechanical heart valve adequate treatment with vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) is essential and potentially lifesaving.

We found that women with a mechanical heart valve aged <55 years have a poorer quality of VKA treatment and higher rates of complications compared to men of similar age.

Time for action!

Would you like to help me close the gap?”
