Mirza Shaheer Hyder: How Have Stroke-Related Dementia Deaths Changed Over The Last 2 Decades?
Mirza Shaheer Hyder, Sales And Marketing Intern at MedAngle, MBBS candidate at Dow University of Health Sciences, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:
”How have stroke-related dementia deaths changed over the last two decades?
I am excited to share my latest study, recently published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Global Health, which examines trends in dementia-associated mortality among stroke patients in the United States from 1999 to 2023.
Using the CDC WONDER database, our team analyzed over 250,000 death records of older adults.
While we found a 59 percent decrease in age-adjusted mortality rates over the last two decades, the burden remains significant.
Our findings highlight critical disparities, with higher mortality rates observed among females, Non-Hispanic Black individuals, and those living in non-metropolitan areas.
These results emphasize the urgent need for stroke-informed dementia care and a more equitable distribution of healthcare resources to support vulnerable populations.”
