Reza Shojaei: Public–Private Partnerships are Essential to Expanding Plasma Collection Capacity
Reza Shojaei, Chief Operating Officer at Canadian Plasma Resources, shared on LinkedIn:
“This article highlights Canadian Blood Services’ efforts to strengthen Canada’s plasma self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on the U.S. for critical plasma-derived medicines.
Reaching meaningful self-sufficiency, including a practical target of at least 50% domestic supply, will require coordinated action across the sector.
Public–private partnerships are essential to expanding plasma collection capacity, enabling investment in infrastructure, and ensuring long-term access to life-saving therapies for Canadians.
Canadian Blood Services’ openness to collaborative models reflects a pragmatic, patient-centred approach to a growing national challenge. Building a resilient plasma system depends on shared responsibility, complementary capabilities, and aligned policy frameworks across public and private stakeholders.
This represents an important step toward a more secure and sustainable ecosystem for plasma-derived products in Canada.”
