Sonia Wolf: Reproductive Outcomes in Women with Sickle Cell Disease

Sonia Wolf, Consultant hematologist at Barts Health NHS Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, adding:

Sickle cell disease and women’s health are two things I am passionate about, and both of which are frequently neglected in medicine.

Abortion and miscarriage affect around 1 in 3 women over the course of their lives but until recently there were very few studies of these in sickle cell disease.

Therefore I am proud to present the first study in Europe of surgical abortion and surgically managed miscarriage in sickle cell disease.

My thanks to all the people who contributed to this work.”

Title: Evaluation of surgical evacuation of the uterus for abortion and management of miscarriage in patients with sickle cell disease: A multicentre UK study

Authors: Sonia Wolf, Natasha Lewis, Funmi Oyesanya, Karlene Birthwright, Tracey Masters, Andriana Andreeva
