”New paper published in Biomaterials: “Platelet concentrate–derived extracellular vesicles promote adult hippocampal neurogenesis” by Ariunjargal Nyam-Erdene, Nhi Thao Ngoc Le, Ouada N.,Emilie Faivre, liling delila, Ming-Li Chou, Joshua Lowe, Kadiombo Bantubungi-Blum, Luc Buee, Luc Buee, Tara Walker, David Blum, and Thierry Burnouf.

This work is the result of a collaboration between Taipei Medical University, University of Lille-, and UQ Queensland Brain Institute.
Key messages of the paper:
(1) Demonstrates that the platelet concentrate–derived secretome enhances neurogenesis in the adult brain, which is a critical step toward clinical translation.
(2) Uses clinically-approved platelet concentrates as starting material, showing a realistic pathway for GMP-compatible, scalable production of the platelet secretome.
(3) Shows how expired or surplus platelet units from blood establishments can be transformed into high-value biotherapies, instead of being discarded.
(4) Combines expertise from TMU (platelet-derived products), ULille (neurodegenerative diseases), and QBI (adult neurogenesis and brain repair), exemplifying a model of translational, international collaboration.”
