Jacqui McCallum’s Insights from NSW Parliamentary Friends of Stroke Group Meeting
Jacqui McCallum, Executive Director Brand, Communications and Advocacy at Stroke Foundation, shared on LinkedIn:
”Yesterday, Lisa Murphy, Hon. Heidi Victoria B.A. and I visited the NSW Parliament for a meeting of the NSW Parliamentary Friends of Stroke Group, where we discussed stroke prevention, treatment and recovery across New South Wales.
Each year, around 14,800 people in NSW experience a stroke with the state falling behind the national average for F.A.S.T. awareness.
The Group’s Co-Chairs, Drc MP (Member for Bega) and Tina Ayyad MP (Member for Holsworthy), spoke about the importance of raising F.A.S.T. awareness and improving care for regional and culturally diverse communities.
Their leadership and advocacy are vital to making stroke a state priority.
We also heard from Professor Ken Butcher who outlined how the NSW Telestroke Service is improving access to lifesaving stroke care for people in regional and rural communities.
Thank you to all the MPs who joined us on what was a very busy day. Special mention to the NSW Minister for Health, the Hon. Ryan Park MP, for attending the event and for his continued support of the Be StrokeSafe in Shoalhaven project, which is helping raise awareness and improve stroke outcomes in regional NSW.”
