David McIntosh: The World Is Running Out of Life-Saving Plasma
David McIntosh, Founder and Chair of United Plasma Action, posted on LinkedIn:
”The Global Shortage of Plasma-Derived Medicines
For anyone out there who may still be doubtful about the seriousness of the World’s shortages of plasma-derived medicines, this chart will help with a better understanding.
I hope fellow LinkedIners find it helpful.
The bare facts for the person in a hurry are –
– patients and undiagnosed sufferers, worldwide, are NOT getting as much plasma-derived medicine as they need
– many (many millions) are getting none at all
– the consequent suffering and death are horrific. It is as shameful as it is unnecessary
– all that’s required to eliminate this blot on the conscience of Humankind is a significant increase in the supply of pharmaceutical grade plasma – only obtainable from human donors
– as is clear in the chart, the World needs about four times as much plasma as is currently being made available, if that suffering is to be alleviated and those lives are to be saved.
The people and organisations who must act on this information are National Governments, Healthcare Authorities, Professional Bodies, Patient Representatives and relevant others. Please do help spread the word to them …. PLEASE”
