In the Fight for Hematology: Adetokunbo O’s Reflections from ASH25
Adetokunbo O, Medical Director – Oncology at AbbVie, shared on LinkedIn:
”I’m leaving the 67th ASH (American Society of Hematology) Annual Meeting and Exposition with a sense of responsibility and gratitude.
At a time when voices in some of the highest seats of power should be advocates for advancements in science and healthcare and the wellbeing of all, but are instead leading to confusion and reversing decades of progress through reckless legislation…..
I am grateful that in spite of the beating down and demoralization that scientists have felt these past couple of months…..
the work continues,
the fight continues,
the grit and courage remains palpable, relentless…and even more urgent and necessary.
For everyone who has lost a loved one to cancer and/or hematologic disease….hear us carefully…
We WILL NOT back down.
For my dear friend and colleague who lost his battle to complications of sickle cell disease, I have never forgotten you and we will continue to fight 4 hematology.
On days when we question if our work still matters, to my colleagues and fellow scientists – it ABSOLUTELY does.
Please stay in the fight.
We need each other to win.
I am so proud of my colleagues and teams, old and new, that continue the hard-work of making sure humans everywhere have access to evidence-based care, grounded in science and compassion.
Till we rendezvous again next year…..the work must go on.
Remain unstoppable and safe travels home!”
