Lipoprotein(a) and Stroke Risk in Over 16,000 Hispanic/Latino Adults: Emerging Insights From the HCHS/SOL Study
Stroke AHA/ASA Journal recently shared a post on X:
”Lipoprotein(a) and Stroke Risk: New Evidence From the Hispanic Community Health Study (HCHS/SOL). In this Blogging Stroke post, Qinglan “Priscilla” Ding discusses Stroke article by Chandra & Duran Luciano et al. AHA Journals – Melissa Lamar, Freddie Marquez.”

A recent analysis from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL), featured in Stroke and discussed in a Blogging Stroke commentary by Qinglan “Priscilla” Ding, sheds new light on the role of lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] in cerebrovascular health.
The study by Chandra, Duran Luciano, and colleagues identifies elevated Lp(a) as a significant risk marker not only for overt stroke but also for subclinical cerebrovascular injury detectable on MRI.
These associations are particularly meaningful for Hispanic/Latino populations, who have been historically underrepresented in cardiovascular research.
As Lp(a)-lowering therapies like olpasiran and pelacarsen advance in development, the findings underscore the potential of incorporating Lp(a) screening into targeted stroke prevention strategies for high-risk groups.
