Salihu Asimawu: Inflammation Is Not a Disease – Hats Off to the Heroes Inside Us
Salihu Asimawu, Medical Laboratory Science Student and Research and Innovation Enthusiast at Ahmadu Bello University, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Inflammation Is Not a Disease
Today in immunology class, we discussed immune reactions in tissue damage. The lecturer reminded us that inflammation is not a disease – it’s a natural physiological process that helps restore the body’s homeostasis.
He gave a vivid example: ‘Imagine someone barges into your house with a knife, trying to take over. You, as the owner, must resist and fight – not just run away. That’s exactly what inflammation does.’
I murmured to myself: if it were me, I’d run away – I definitely don’t have the strength to face the person, let alone the knife.
But then I realized: our immune system doesn’t run away. It stands its ground and fights tirelessly until the threat is neutralized. Every day, our body protects us, often without us even noticing.
Unlike me (and probably some of us), who would hide, our immune system shows true courage every day. Maybe it’s time we start taking notes and give it the support it deserves – good food, proper rest, exercise, and smart habits.
Hats off to the heroes inside us.”
