Understanding Bleeding Disorder of Unknown Cause – EHC
EHC – European Haemophilia Consortium shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Extremely Rare Bleeding Disorder of the Month: Bleeding Disorder of Unknown Cause (BDUC)
For some people living with bleeding symptoms, even extensive testing cannot identify a clear cause. This condition is known as Bleeding Disorder of Unknown Cause (BDUC). Despite normal routine laboratory results, individuals may still experience frequent nosebleeds, easy bruising, heavy menstrual bleeding, or prolonged bleeding after injuries, dental work, or surgery.
Because BDUC has no single identified diagnostic marker, people can face long diagnostic journeys and uncertainty around treatment. Greater awareness and research are needed to better understand the condition and improve care for those affected.
Please note: in ‘Bleeding Disorder of Unknown Cause’, ‘Unknown’ means the underlying cause has not yet been identified. It does not mean the condition is unclear, imagined, or less serious!
Raising awareness helps ensure that people with unexplained bleeding symptoms are taken seriously, referred to specialists, and receive appropriate management and support.
