Tracy Madsen: Migraine Remains Associated with An Increased Risk of Ischemic Stroke Even After Menopause
Tracy Madsen, Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Research on Department of Emergency Medicine at The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Neurology, adding:
”Excited to share new work from our lab examining migraine and stroke risk in postmenopausal women using data from the Women’s Health Initiative.
Our findings show that migraine remains associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke even after menopause, highlighting that vascular risk linked to migraine may persist later in life.
Interestingly, our analyses suggest that inflammation may not be the primary pathway underlying this association.
