Sergey Badalyan: EHA2026 Opening Ceremony – The Importance of Building Communities, Not Projects

Sergey Badalyan, Medical Oncology Resident at Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, Assistant Managing Editor at OncoDaily Medical Journal, shared a post on LinkedIn:

” ‘Build communities, not projects.’

That line from Prof. Claire Harrison perfectly captured the vibe at the EHA2026 Opening Ceremony today at Stockholmsmässan.

It’s a great reminder that behind all the clinical data, it’s the people and patients that matter most.

Big congratulations to all of this year’s EHA Award winners:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Prof Claire Harrison
  • Clinical Excellence: Prof Josep‑Maria Ribera
  • Research Excellence: Prof George Vassiliou
  • Education and Mentoring: Prof Raúl Córdoba Mascuñano
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Prof Gianluca Gaidano
  • Young EHA: Dr Nico Gagelmann

Accepting her award, Prof. Harrison shared advice she’d give her younger self:

‘Be brave. Build communities, not projects. Listen to patients and work with them. Find great people to mentor you, mentor others, and collaborate widely. Be patient and determined. Celebrate all the friendships that you make and enjoy in meetings like this and in your career. But remember that lasting change and, indeed, achievement is always achieved by effort.’

Such a great mindset for the rest of EHA2026.

Looking forward to a busy few days of learning and catching up with colleagues!

Let me know if you are around Stockholm this week!”
