Satish C Tajne: MHEI 2026 Marks a Milestone in Advancing Hematology Care

Satish C Tajne, Maharashtra State Lead at PATH, reposted from on LinkedIn:

”At PATH, we are proud to support this first-of-its-kind consultation led by the Public Health Department, Government of Maharashtra.

Marking World Sickle Cell Day, MHEI 2026 represents a significant step towards an integrated and equitable approach to preventing and managing hemoglobinopathies and hemophilia.

Grateful to all experts for their valuable insights and continued commitment to advancing care in this area.”

Quoting Maharashtra Arogya IEC Bureau‘s post:

Maharashtra has taken a significant step towards strengthening the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care of hemoglobinopathies and hemophilia through a comprehensive and integrated approach.

A lively and thought-provoking exchange of ideas marked the Maharashtra Integrated Haemoglobinopathies and Hemophilia Elimination Initiative (MHEI 2026), held in Mumbai on 18 June 2026.

Convened by the Public Health Department, Government of Maharashtra, in collaboration with National Health Mission Maharashtra and PATH, the expert consultation brought together policymakers, clinicians, researchers, technical experts, and implementation partners to deliberate on a roadmap for the prevention, control, and comprehensive management of Sickle Cell Disease, Thalassemia, and Hemophilia in Maharashtra, while exploring a key question – How can Maharashtra build an integrated, equitable, and sustainable state-wide programme for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of hemoglobinopathies and hemophilia?

The consultation focused on strengthening the entire continuum of care—from screening, diagnosis, prevention, counselling, and comprehensive treatment to patient support systems, day-care services, human resources, financing, surveillance, and community engagement.

The recommendations emerging from this consultation will help shape Maharashtra’s roadmap towards a more coordinated, equitable, and sustainable response to hemoglobinopathies and hemophilia, ultimately improving the quality of life and health outcomes of affected individuals and families across the state.”
