Akshat Jain: Advancing Sickle Cell Awareness in India
Akshat Jain, Hematology Pediatric Workforce Task Force at American Society of Hematology, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“We are celebrating World Sickle Cell Day in style!
For the past 20 years Global Health has taken me to all corners of the globe for blood and cancer disorders and this year we focus our energies to an area of dense sickle cell prevelance and under identified unmet needs- India.
World Sickle Cell Day on juneteenth identifies the theme each year .
This year we are living up that theme of Closing the Survival Gap; Equity in Sickle Cell Disease by trying to close the ‘Knowledge Gap’ with academia and patient/caregivers alike.
Happy to steer a lot of activities and especially close to me the ‘Book Launch’ of our educational cartoon book series – ‘SickleCellMan’ in Hindi, oriya, Gujarati etc. to spread awareness and empower the kids , young adults and caregivers with the knowledge of the disease.
Join me in celebrating World Sickle Cell Day!”
