“Thromboinflammation at the 17th World Congress of Inflammation – Iguassu, Brazil.
It was a pleasure to chair the GREMI Short Symposium on Thromboinflammation at the 17th World Congress of Inflammation in Iguassu, Brazil.
The session explored links between inflammation, innate immunity and thrombosis, with a focus on immunothrombosis and neutrophils.
- Eugenio Hottz discussed host responses in immunothrombosis during viral infections, including Zika and long COVID.
- Benoît Ho-Tin-Noé presented evidence for neutrophil contributions to thromboinflammation in stroke.
- I presented our work showing that cytoplasmic PCNA regulates NOX2 activity, ROS production and NET formation in neutrophils, potentially contributing to immunothrombosis.
The central role of neutrophils across these pathological contexts made for a stimulating session and highlighted exciting directions for future research.
