Eamon Faulkner: How Oxygen Shapes Platelet–Endothelial Interactions

Eamon Faulkner, Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Hull York Medical School, University of Hull, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“It’s been a real pleasure to supervise Rebecca Sanderson during her Platelet Society Summer Studentship 2026, and I’m delighted to celebrate her hard work and the posting of her final research report!

During her studentship, Rebecca investigated how oxygen levels influence the interactions between platelets and the endothelial cells that line our blood vessels.

Her work explored how physiologically relevant oxygen concentrations can influence endothelial cell protein expression and platelet behaviour, highlighting the importance of considering oxygen levels when developing more physiologically relevant models of platelet function and thrombosis.

I’m particularly proud of the enthusiasm, dedication and commitment Rebecca has brought to this project. It has been fantastic to watch her develop her research skills, confidence and scientific independence throughout the studentship.

Even better, this project has been the starting point for her continued research journey, with Rebecca now further developing the work as part of an MRes with our team. It’s wonderful to see her passion for research continue to grow, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the project develops and where her research journey takes her next.

You can read Rebecca’s submitted summer studentship report, kindly shared by the Platelet Society, here:

A big thank you to The Platelet Society for providing opportunities like this to support and inspire the next generation of researchers.

Well done, Rebecca Sanderson – you should be very proud of what you’ve achieved! ”
