Amber Yates: Honoring the Sickle Cell Community Behind the Rise Up Study
Amber Yates, Senior Medical Director and Global Medical Affairs Leader at Agios Pharmaceuticals, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Reflecting on Day 3 at EHA 2026.
Today, we shared the RISE UP results from Agios.
Five years ago, I made the decision to step away from academic medicine.
It wasn’t easy, because caring directly for patients with Sickle Cell shaped so much of who I was as a physician.
But I left with a very clear purpose: to find a way to impact more lives, at a broader scale, than I could one patient at a time.
Sitting with my colleagues today and seeing these data being shared with the hematology community, fills me with pride for the Sickle Cell community—patients and families who showed up, trusted the process, and participated in RISE UP—this progress is only possible through their courage and commitment.
Grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up and keep patients at the center of everything we do.
A thousand thanks to Ahmar U. Zaidi, who is the shining light of encouragement at Agios.”
