Eirini Zorba: Plasmapheresis in Focus Understanding Its Role in Patient Care
Eirini Zorba, Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of West Attica and Head Nurse at Attikon University Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn։
”In May 2026, I wrote an article on iatronet.gr about plasmapheresis (Therapeutic Plasma Exchange – TPE), with the aim of explaining, in a clear and accessible way, a specialized therapeutic procedure used in the management of serious medical conditions.
A few months later, following its republication in response to recent events and the increased public interest in plasmapheresis, the article received remarkable attention and went viral.
Perhaps this is because whenever a healthcare topic suddenly enters the public spotlight, many questions arise — along with an even greater need for accurate, evidence-based, and understandable information.
What exactly is plasmapheresis?
How is it performed?
In which conditions is it used?
And which patients may benefit from it?
These are some of the questions I address in my article, aiming to make a complex medical topic accessible without compromising scientific accuracy.
The response to the republication has been particularly meaningful to me.
It highlights how important reliable health education and evidence-based communication are, especially when a scientific issue suddenly becomes part of the public conversation.”
