Gevorg Tamamyan: Building a Team That Creates Miracles

”THE TEAM

Yesterday was World Cancer Day — February 4.

On this day, OncoDaily organized the Global OncoThon, our flagship initiative—now for the third consecutive year.

This year, we joined forces with Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the world’s largest cancer federation, uniting more than 1,000 organizations worldwide.

From the early hours of the morning, the 24-hour marathon began in the Eastern Hemisphere—Australia and New Zealand—and moved steadily across the globe.

We broadcast the entire OncoThon live on X, reaching hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

The messages, comments, and engagement coming in from every continent were truly overwhelming.

We had 130 extraordinary speakers—global leaders, visionaries, and changemakers—joining us across time zones to stand for one shared mission.

But what struck me most did not happen on camera.

The day before the OncoThon, a friend asked me for specific operational details about the event. And in that moment, I realized something remarkable: I knew very little about the day-to-day execution this year.

Not because it wasn’t happening, but because the team had taken full ownership.

Everything had been built, coordinated, and delivered by a group of exceptional people who pulled it all together seamlessly.

And that, for me, was the most meaningful moment of all.

I have always believed that real success is when a project can move forward—with the same strength, or even better—without you at the center of it.

That is when leadership has truly worked.

This OncoThon proved again the power of a team.

I want to give my deepest thanks and recognition to the OncoDaily team—a team of leaders, doers, and changemakers—who made this possible. And to the UICC team, who joined forces with us this year in true partnership, commitment, and shared purpose.

I often say this, and I believe it deeply:
You must bring the best people together.
Give them freedom to create.
Freedom to innovate.
Freedom to act.
And hold them accountable.

When you do that—miracles happen.

Once, I was asked how I choose my team. My answer was immediate: I choose only those who are better than me.

I am incredibly proud to be part of this team.

Thank you to everyone who supported, participated in, and believed in this global journey.
