“Gene therapy is creating new possibilities for patients with genetic hemoglobinopathies, but collecting sufficient, high-quality hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs) can be particularly challenging due to the impact of the underlying disease on mobilization.
Optimizing these procedures is an important step in helping more patients benefit from these therapies.
We appreciate AABB and presenting faculty, including Dr. John Manis, behind ‘Optimizing Apheresis Starting Material Collections for Stem Cell Gene Therapy Manufacturing for Patients with Genetic Hemoglobinopathies’ for tackling these challenges head-on to help ensure more SCD and thalassemia patients can benefit from these breakthrough therapies.
