Maxime Dely: Raising Awareness and Improving Diagnosis of Sickle Cell Disease in France
Maxime Dely, Therapeutic Solutions Sales Consultant at Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“June 19 – World Sickle Cell Day
Sickle cell disease is now the most common genetic disorder in France, affecting between 19,000 and 25,000 patients, not including those who may still be unaware they have it.
Yet public awareness remains far below the reality of this complex condition. Beyond painful crises, it can lead to severe complications, impact vital organs, education, careers, and significantly affect patients’ quality of life.
Fortunately, major advances are changing the landscape: gene therapy, automated red blood cell exchange, and innovations in care pathways are creating new hope for patients.
I have had the opportunity to meet and work alongside people living with sickle cell disease, and I have seen firsthand how deeply it affects every aspect of daily life. Their resilience is remarkable and reminds us why action is needed.
On this World Sickle Cell Day, let’s work together to raise awareness, improve early diagnosis, expand access to innovation, and support research to improve patients’ lives.”
