Rajan Gadhia: Many Strokes Are Preventable with Awareness, Early Recognition, and Timely Action

Rajan Gadhia, Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology at Houston Methodist Academic Institute, shared on LinkedIn:

”May is Stroke Awareness Month – a time to reflect, educate, and recommit to the patients and families we serve.

Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States experiences a stroke – nearly 800,000 people each year.

The reality is both humbling and motivating: many strokes are preventable with awareness, early recognition, and timely action.

In our field, seconds matter.

That’s why we emphasize BEFAST:

  • Balance. Eyes. Face. Arm. Speech. Time.
  • Recognizing these signs and acting quickly can change everything.

I’m grateful to be part of a community – at Houston Methodist and beyond – committed to advancing stroke care, innovation, and education.

But there is still more to do.

This month, I’m challenging myself – and all of us – to go further: to educate, to prevent, and to lead with purpose.

The future of stroke care is bright – and it’s ours to shape.”
