Shivanand Kumatagi Reflects on His Visit to Rela Hospital
Shivanand Kumatagi, Development Officer (India) at ICCBBA, shared on LinkedIn:
”Productive Visit to Rela Hospital, Chennai
I had the opportunity to visit Rela Hospital, Chennai and it was a pleasure engaging with the Transfusion Medicine team on the importance of adopting ISBT128 standardized labeling for blood and cellular therapy products.
We discussed how the increasing use of advanced technologies—including automation, barcodes, and RFID—brings tremendous benefits but also introduces new challenges related to accuracy, interoperability, and traceability.
This is exactly where standardized, globally recognized ISBT128 play a crucial role.
They help overcome these obstacles by ensuring consistency, reducing errors, and enabling seamless communication across diverse platforms and systems.
It was encouraging to see the team’s positive response and their commitment to aligning with international standards and global best practices to enhance patient safety.
Looking forward to continuing this conversation and supporting the further strengthening of transfusion services.”
