Sophia Delicou: How Essential It Is to Ensure Equitable Access to Innovation, Specialized Care, and Patient-Centered Medicine
Sophia Delicou, Head of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Unit, Head of the Expertise Center of Hemoglobin Diseases and Their Complications at Hippokrateio General Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:
”Honored and grateful to participate this morning, back-to-back, in two important meetings dedicated to Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease at the beautiful Lake Plastira, coinciding with World Thalassemia Day.
It was a privilege to engage with both healthcare professionals and patients, highlighting the importance of collaboration, education, and continuous progress in the field.
- During the physicians’ session, I had the opportunity to discuss the role of red blood cell exchange transfusions in Sickle Cell Disease and their value in preventing and managing disease complications.
- In the patient-focused session, we discussed the latest therapeutic advances and emerging treatments that are reshaping the lives of individuals living with Thalassaemia with the ultimate goal of improving not only survival, but also quality of life.
Science continues to move forward, bringing new therapeutic opportunities and renewed hope for our patients.
Meaningful discussions like these remind us how essential it is to ensure equitable access to innovation, specialized care, and patient-centered medicine.
Many thanks to the organizers for the kind invitation and to all colleagues, patients, and participants for the inspiring discussions.”
