Suswapna Singh Rawat: The Clinical Significance of Coronary Plaque Stability
Suswapna Singh Rawat, Physician, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Understanding plaque stability is crucial for heart health.
While we often aim for a ‘clean artery,’ the nature of plaque matters.
Hardened, calcified plaque, though potentially contributing to blockages in 20 percent of heart attacks, is generally more stable than soft, fatty plaque.
The latter is more prone to dislodging and causing embolisms.
This insight challenges conventional thinking: a hard plaque might be preferable to a soft one.
It highlights the importance of considering plaque composition, not just its presence, in cardiovascular risk assessment.”
