Don’t Overlook Superficial Clots – World Thrombosis Day
World Thrombosis Day shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Superficial vein thrombosis (SVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein near the surface of the skin, often accompanied by inflammation, pain, redness or warmth.
While SVT is generally less serious than deep vein thrombosis (DVT), it should not be overlooked.
In some cases, a superficial clot can extend into the deep venous system and increase the risk of complications.
For healthcare professionals, recognizing the signs of SVT and assessing for potential progression are important parts of appropriate evaluation and care.
