Zain Khalpey: Why the Cause of Reduced Perfusion Matters
Zain Khalpey, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“As this illustration highlights, reduced perfusion may result from thrombosis, embolism, vasospasm, atherosclerosis, external compression, vasculitis, vascular steal, or hyperviscosity.
While the end result is decreased blood flow, identifying the underlying cause is essential for accurate diagnosis and selecting the most appropriate treatment strategy.
Understanding these mechanisms remains fundamental across cardiovascular medicine, vascular surgery, neurology, and emergency care.”
