Christian Heiss։ When Diabetes and PAD Overlap, Cardiovascular and Limb Risks Rise
Christian Heiss, Associate Head of Medical School (Research and Innovation) at University of Surrey, Professor and NHS Consultant in Interventional Cardiovascular Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by James Amamoo et al, published in American Journal of Preventive Cardiology:
”New paper worth flagging (Am J Prev Cardiol): in real-world data, people with type 2 diabetes who also have peripheral artery disease (PAD) had markedly higher risks of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and major adverse limb events (MALE) than those without PAD.
It’s also a reminder that PAD remains under-recognised—most diagnostic work-ups still rely on ABI and duplex ultrasound.”
Title: Impact of peripheral artery disease (PAD) on risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with type 2 diabetes
Authors: James Amamoo, Lin Xie, Andrea Steffens, Erin Buysman, Caroline Swift, Sherif Mehanna, Noelle N. Gronroos, Marc P. Bonaca
