Hayley Evans: Variability in Perioperative TXA Practice Despite Strong Evidence
Hayley Evans, Deputy Director at the NIHR Blood and Transplant Research Unit in Data Driven Transfusion Practice, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in BJHaem, adding:
“One of the interesting areas of perioperative research is not simply what works, but why evidence based practice is adopted inconsistently in real world clinical settings.
Our new paper in the British Journal of Haematology explores this through perioperative tranexamic acid (TXA) use across UK surgical practice.
Despite strong evidence supporting TXA, clinicians still vary considerably in how and when they use it.
Using a behavioural science framework, we explored some of the cognitive, cultural and organisational factors behind that variation.
Implementation is rarely just about evidence alone.”
