Can We Prevent Postpartum Blood Clots without Putting Most Women on Heparin? – RPTH Journal
RPTH Journal shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Choi Wah Kong and William Wing Kee To, published in RPTH Journal, adding:
“Can we prevent postpartum blood clots without putting most women on heparin?
In a cohort of more than 4,800 cesarean deliveries, a locally adapted VTE risk-scoring model identified just 3.3% of women for pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis, far fewer than would have been recommended by several international guidelines.
Despite this targeted approach, postpartum VTE rates fell from 0.33% to 0.10%, with no increase in bleeding complications.
A compelling example of how population-specific risk models may improve precision, safety, and resource utilization in obstetric care.”
