Rachel Carrington: I’m Thrilled to Announce that the Work From my PhD and Postdoc has Now Been Published in JCI

Rachel Carrington, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Birmingham, shared a post on LinkedIn:

”Exciting News!

I’m thrilled to announce that the work from my PhD and Postdoc has now been published in JCI! This work explores the critical role of the gene SLFN14 in platelet production and function.

Some of the key highlights from this important work:

SLFN14’s Role: We identified that the SLFN14 gene is essential for proper platelet production and function.

RNA Sequencing: RNA sequencing of megakaryocytes (platelet progenitors) and platelets revealed differentially expressed genes and pathways regulated by SLFN14.

Model Comparison: Our study provides the first in vivo model of complete SLFN14 loss-of-function in platelets, offering new insights into the essential role of SLNF14 in platelet function.

A huge thank you to all the collaborators, supporters and funding bodies for making this research possible. British Heart Foundation NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) University of Birmingham. I’m excited to see how this important work will influence our understanding of platelet-related disorders in the future.

Keep an eye out for the next issue, published in October, where one of our platelet images has been selected to appear on the front cover!

(P.S. Rachel Stapley isn’t an alter ego, that was my maiden name).”
