Stéphanie Forté: Transition Readiness in Youth With Sickle Cell Disease
Stéphanie Forté, Principal Researcher at the Carrefour de l’innovation, Centre de recherche du CHUM (CRCHUM), shared a post on LinkedIn about she and and her colleagues co-authored, adding:
“Proud of our team: New publication on transition in sickle cell disease
Transition to adult care is a critical challenge for adolescents living with sickle cell disease, and one that we are actively working to improve.
Our latest study, published in eJHaem, explores the use of the TRAQ-FR to assess transition readiness in youth followed in our CHU Sainte-Justine–CHUM – Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal transition program.
Key message:
There is no one-size-fits-all definition of readiness, and transition outcomes are influenced by much more than individual skills.
This important project was led by Dr. Sophie Marsolais (MD, MSc) as part of her master’s thesis at Université de Montréal, and is now being further developed by Phalica Georges (MSc candidate, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) award recipient).
It was conducted in close collaboration with Drs. Nathalie Gaucher (master’s cosupervisor), Leandra Desjardins, Yves Pastore, Nancy Robitaille, Marie-Josée Clermont, and myself.
Seeing trainees grow into impactful researchers in sickle cell disease – and supporting youth in navigating a safe and successful transition to adult care – is one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
More to come, including larger studies to better understand and improve transition outcomes.
