Daniel Torrent: Amputation Is Not Inevitable in CLTI

Daniel Torrent, Vascular Surgeon at Longstreet Clinic, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Amputation is not the only option.

Chronic Limb Threatening Ischemia (CLTI) is the end-stage of peripheral arterial disease.

It manifests as rest pain or non-healing wounds/gangrene.

Tragically, many patients with CLTI undergo primary amputation without ever having a vascular evaluation or an angiogram.

This is a failure of our healthcare system.

With modern endovascular techniques and open bypass surgery, we can salvage limbs that were once considered unsalvageable.

Saving a limb can improve not only quality of life, but overall longevity.”
