Michael Ertl: Patient-Reported Outcomes Reveal Differences in Perceived Stroke Recovery
Michael Ertl, Medical Director and Chief Physician at District Hospitals of Swabia, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:
”New publication from our working group:
We investigated whether different causes of ischemic strokes also differ in physical function from the patient’s point of view in the first year after stroke.
The result was quite interesting: In a cohort with predominantly mild strokes, there were no significant differences between the TOAST subtypes after adjustment.
This suggests that the subjectively experienced physical recovery does not automatically reflect what we derive from classic clinical outcome scales.
Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) can provide additional, clinically relevant perspectives here.
For me, this is another indication that we should not only look at recovery after stroke with established medical scales, but also from the perspective of those affected.”
