Alice Zerbinati: Y-90 Radioembolization Expands Curative Options for Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma
Alice Zerbinati, Senior Medical Education and Affairs Manager at TheraSphere EMEA, shared Arndt Vogel’s post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Carlo Sposito et al, published in Hepatology, adding:
“Should portal vein tumor thrombosis PVT automatically exclude patients from curativeintent treatment?
For patients with HCC and PVT, the answer has often been yes.
Limited options. Poor prognosis. Few opportunities to reach potentially curative therapies.
Studies like this challenge us to think differently.
This multicenter Italian experience shows that, in selected patients, Y90 radioembolization can successfully downstage unlocking access to liver transplantation, offering a chance that would have been considered out of reach for many patients.
What stands out to me is not only the clinical outcome, but the power of #multidisciplinary collaboration.
Hepatologists, transplant surgeons, interventional radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and oncologists working together to reassess what is possible for advanced HCC patients.
Congratulations to all authors for this important contribution to the evolving HCC treatment landscape.”
Arndt Vogel, Professor at Toronto General Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Outcomes of Y90-radioembolization as downstaging to liver transplantation HCC and tumoral portal vein thrombosis.
25 percent sustained downstaging after TARE.
15 percent eventually LTx with good outcome.
Downstaging is feasible in MVI pts.”
