Ahmed Hamandi: Sharing Real-World HSCT Experience at the Iraqi Society of Haematology Conference
Ahmed Hamandi, Bone Marrow Transplant Program Director, Clinical Hematologist at AL Kafeel Super Specialty Hospital, Faculty Lecturer at Ahl Al Bayt A.S. University, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Day 1, Iraqi Society of Haematology annual conference is done.
Wounder full afternoon, we met at Al Massala hall of World Heart Hotel in Baghdad. The HSCT session was outstanding. People spoke about their own experience and problems. No Pharma backed speakers, no manipulative statistics.
Haider Shahad from Karbala showed his experience in AlMojtaba Hospital for Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation – MBMTH with figures matching what had been performed elsewhere with a tiny fraction of the cost.
From the same center, Abdulaziz Wannas described how transplant of Thalassemia in Iraq is very cost-effective if compared to the life long management of patients.
From Baghdad Zahra Sammer presented her encounter with GvHD complications of thier cohort.
Finally, an outstanding presentation by Dr Salwa Faris on cGvHD, interestingly, Salwa a dermatologist, another great forward leap from Iraqi Society of Haematology in hosting non-hematologist in its meetings.
An infectious disease specialist Ali Omrani from Qatar, and a specialist transplanter from USA Zaid Al-Kadhimi communicated their experience to the Iraqi transplanters.
As usual, I met lot of old friends and colleagues.”
