Marilena Vrana: Centering Patients at the Heart of the IPPC 2026 Congress
Marilena Vrana, Vice President at the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) Europe, shared on LinkedIn:
”Monday, 27 April, was a meaningful unofficial kickoff to IPPC 2026.
After a productive day of board meetings in Milan, members of several PPTA boards and patient representatives from various organizations visited San Raffaele Hospital to learn about their important work with the local primary immunodeficiency (PID) community.
Patient representatives from the Association for Primary Immunodeficiencies, an IPOPI member, also joined us to share their experiences of access, awareness, and advocacy for plasma-derived medicines.
PPTA Europe was pleased to present AIP with a grant to support their local efforts to reach and support even more PID patients.
We also heard from leaders at the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (SR-Tiget) and Telethon Foundation, who highlighted groundbreaking work in immunodeficiency research and care.
The experience concluded with a tour of the labs and clinical paediatric area, including the state-of-the-art infusion center, bringing innovation and patient care together in a powerful way.
Many thanks to Kedrion Biopharma for helping to organize the visits and patient engagement.
As we head into the official start of the Internationa Plasma Protein Congress this morning, Iโm especially grateful to have spent time at the hospital alongside an incredible group of patients who define this yearโs Congress theme of Resilience, Reach, Responsibility.
By listening and learning, we are reminded why this work matters so deeply.
Their strength and honesty are the foundation of everything Congress attendees are about to discuss this week.
I hope to see many of you in Milan.”
