Marc Carrier: A Practical Approach to Recurrent Thrombosis in Cancer Patients
Marc Carrier, Professor at Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:
“Managing recurrent VTE despite anticoagulation in patients with cancer remains one of the most challenging scenarios in thrombosis care.
This ‘How I Treat’ review outlines a pragmatic potential approach:
- Confirm true recurrence (versus residual clot)
- Assess adherence, drug interactions, and absorption
- Optimize anticoagulation (LMWH escalation or switch)
Despite these strategies, recurrence and bleeding risks remain substantial highlighting the urgent need for more high-quality data.”
