New Approach Could Lead to Earlier Diagnosis of Iron Deficiency in Children – American Society of Hematology

American Society of Hematology shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Iron deficiency in children ages 5–14 may be more common and could be diagnosed earlier, according to new research published in Blood Red Cells and Iron.

Using a new approach that applies a higher ferritin threshold and early markers of iron-restricted red blood cell production, researchers identified iron deficiency in about 1 in 3 children (30%) in the study sample, a marked increase from 9% identified using previous methods.

Learn more in the press release.”
