Kanchi Jain: Delivering Equitable Surgical Care for Women with Advanced Gynecologic Disease

Kanchi Jain, Senior Resident at GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Had the opportunity to perform a Total abdominal hysterectomy for a patient with heavy menstrual bleeding (AUB L) and anemia, alongside my juniors at KEM Hospital.

Caring for such patients reminds us how delayed presentation, limited awareness, and resource constraints can turn a treatable condition into a life‑threatening challenge.

Working in a government setup is demanding yet deeply rewarding.

From navigating high patient loads to managing with limited infrastructure, every case becomes a lesson in clinical judgment, teamwork, and improvisation.

Each procedure sharpens not only our skills but also our empathy and resilience.

Despite the constraints, the greatest reward is the trust in our patients’ eyes and the relief on their faces when they receive timely, affordable care.

Moments like these reinforce why we chose medicine in the first place and keep us motivated to learn, grow, and serve better every day.”
