Mavis Agnes Kisakye: Celebrating the Mothers of the Haemophilia Community

Mavis Agnes Kisakye, Health Officer, EVD Response at Uganda Red Cross Society, shared on LinkedIn:

”Celebrating the Mothers of the Haemophilia Community

On International Women’s Day, we spotlight the critical role of women in the healthcare journey of children with rare conditions.

Ouma Junior (13 years old) was diagnosed with severe Haemophilia, FVIII deficiency in 2019.

Due to a lack of early access to treatment and diagnosis, he suffered disabling bleeds, a stark reminder of the work still needed in health equity.

However, the trajectory of his life shifted when his mother found the Haemophilia Foundation of Uganda.

This connection provided the community and medical support necessary to foster Owen’s ambition.

Supported by Save One Life, the World Federation of Haemophilia and NNHF, Owen is now a young man with a vision. He aspires to give back to his community and provide a better life for the mother who never abandoned him.

We honor Owen’s mother today, a true advocate, caregiver, and pillar of strength and celebrate the mothers else where who advocate, the organizations that support, and the children who dream of a better world.”
