Alba Grayston Morales: How IL-1 Signaling Drives Injury and Repair in The Ischaemic Brain
Alba Grayston Morales, Postdoctoral Researcher at CIML, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Glia, adding:
”Thrilled to share our latest work from my postdoc at the Brain Inflammation Group, University of Manchester, now out in Glia!
We show that microglial IL-1β is a key amplifier of early post-stroke injury, with the most pronounced benefits of its deletion seen in female mice.
Beyond acute inflammation, microglial IL-1β also shapes post-stroke neurogenesis in a region-specific way.
Together, these findings add a new piece to the puzzle of how IL-1 signaling drives injury and repair in the ischaemic brain, supporting a model in which microglial IL-1α and IL-1β play distinct, non-redundant roles after stroke.”
